Selfie Copyright laStaempfli vor Siebdruck Damien Hirst im K\u00fcnstlerhaus f\u00fcr die N\u00e4chte der Philosophie.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1979 Reloaded: How the Left Lost the Enlightenment (Again)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>By Regula Staempfli \u2014 laStaempfli<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cTotalitarianism begins the moment belief replaces thought.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014 laStaempfli<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zohran Mamdani\u2019s victory in New York is being celebrated as a triumph of diversity, justice, and \u201ca new progressive era.\u201d<br>Let\u2019s tell the truth:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This election marks the moment when the Western Left abandons the Enlightenment once more \u2014 and embraces a moral-coded tribalism that looks suspiciously like theocratic politics in identity packaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have seen this film before.<br><strong>Tehran, 1979.<\/strong><br>Western intellectuals cheered the \u201cmoderate cleric\u201d Khomeini.<br>They mistook fanaticism for liberation.<br>They called submission \u201cauthenticity.\u201d<br>They betrayed women, dissidents, secular thinkers \u2014 and reality itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, the same reflex returns \u2014 algorithmically refined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The new authoritarianism doesn\u2019t wear uniforms.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It wears <em>hashtags<\/em>.<br>It censors not through prisons but through \u201csafety guidelines.\u201d<br>It praises women in theory and erases them in practice.<br>It calls censorship \u201ccare.\u201d<br>It calls submission \u201csolidarity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not progress.<br>It is <strong>Algorithmic Theocracy<\/strong> \u2014 the soft totalitarianism of the digital age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hannah Arendt warned us:<br>Totalitarianism is not just violence.<br>It is <em>worldlessness<\/em> \u2014 the destruction of a shared reality through moral code and emotional absolutism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why Mamdani echoes 1979<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s Left does not argue.<br>It <em>declares<\/em>.<br>It does not debate.<br>It <em>denounces<\/em>.<br>It does not think.<br>It <em>believes<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And belief is the oldest enemy of freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Morality replaces truth.<\/li><li>Victimhood replaces citizenship.<\/li><li>Language replaces reality.<\/li><li>Religion hides inside identity.<\/li><li>Women vanish again.<\/li><li>Dissent equals heresy.<\/li><li>Media worship instead of question.<\/li><li>Violence is romanticized \u2014 as long as it\u2019s \u201cresistance.\u201d<\/li><li>History is rewritten to suit the narrative.<\/li><li>Democracy becomes performance, not power.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u201cDemocracy is not a Safe Space \u2014 it is a space for argument.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014 laStaempfli<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Progressives once argued for universal rights.<br>Now they defend sectarian identities.<br>They once defended reason.<br>Now they enforce emotion.<br>They once fought for women.<br>Now they tell women that sex does not exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And they imagine themselves radical \u2014 while serving the oldest reactionary dream:<br><strong>replace thinking with belief, individuals with tribes, and politics with obedience.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not liberation.<br>It is the algorithmic return of the clerical mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1979 again \u2014 only smoother, curated, Instagram-polished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201c<\/em><strong><em>When truth becomes a moral posture, politics dies.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014 laStaempfli<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What happens next?<br>Either we reclaim reason \u2014 or we surrender to the new cults.<br>Either we defend Enlightenment \u2014 or we relive its destruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>History is back.<br>And it has a login screen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Zohran Mamdami: The election of a socialist Islamist in the biggest jewish city outside Israel, New York: &#8220;We have seen this movie before.&#8221;
